Obituary of Todd Jones

Todd Jones, age 49, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of 19 years to Stephanie Jones. He was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada on April 10, 1974 and was the son of Irma and the late Calvin Jones.

Todd (Jonesy) was born and raised in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, a place he always considered to be his home and would bring family and friends back to show off the beautiful area that he was fortunate enough to grow up in.  Through his father, Todd developed his love of sports, playing competitive softball and hockey throughout his youth. Being an elite athlete, Todd had the opportunity to play in many high-level sporting events including the National Midget Softball Championships, and the 1991 Canada winter games as part of the Nova Scotia hockey team.  He was fortunate enough to play at a high level of hockey as a member of the Sudbury Wolves (OHL), where injuries ended his hockey playing days. 

In lieu of his hockey career, Todd put his big body to use on the football field representing the St.F.X. X-Men where he immediately made an impact on the Offensive line playing for a decorated team that went on to become AUS champs and National runner- ups.  A team that later earned the honor of being inducted into the St.F.X. University sports Hall of Fame, an accomplishment in which Todd was very proud of sharing with many teammates who he held in high regard.  Although Todd played football and respected the game to the highest level, you couldn’t take the hockey player out of Todd as this was evident on the field.

Todd was an athlete at St.F.X. but his education was always at the forefront.  He graduated St.F.X in 1997 with a Phys. Ed. Degree, starting his career as an educator, which lasted 25 years. Todd was fortunate enough to teach in many different provinces and states, starting and ending in Stamford, CT.  During his time as an educator Todd was someone who the students could always confide in as he always put their needs in front of anything else.  During his teaching days Todd always made sure he stayed close to athletics, as he coached many different teams over the past 30 years. If Todd was not in the classroom, you could find him on the football, softball field, or at the rink, coaching many different athletes. Many summers Todd worked at the Wolfeboro Camp School as the counselor for the kitchen campers and later was the head of the boy’s camp. Although Stephanie and Todd met one time before, it was at Wolfeboro where their love began, playing guitar in the counselor cabin and sharing his love for music.

Aside from being a teacher and athlete, the most important thing to Todd was his family and friends.  He was always the happiest when he was with his children, watching and coaching them on the ice, field or the mat.  He was very proud of all of his children’s accomplishments as they meant more than the world to him.

 Todd was one of the most loving and loyal friends, brother, father, husband and son a person could want. He was always the entertainer, playing guitar, making up songs, or captivating people with his great stories. Though Todd was usually the center of attention, it was never by choice and almost came naturally after a little bit of encouragement from those who surrounded him.  It didn’t matter if he knew you from Antigonish, Wolfeboro, Darlington, Perkiomen or Trumbull, he always had a great big smile, and would have you laughing in a matter of minutes. He was a great person who we lost way too early.

In addition to his beloved wife Stephanie, his mother Irma and his three cherished children, Logan, Maren and Tatum, Todd also leaves behind three siblings, Loreen Allen (Rob), Marla Barton (Keith) and Brian Jones (Amy). In-laws, Richard and Donna Taber, Melissa Samaha and James Taber, as well as 13 nieces and nephews, Ryan, Luke, Cole, Cohen, Ty, Keirha, Andrew, Jenna, Adam, Jake, Amanda, Sydney and Avery.

Friends may greet the family Friday, September 15^th, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.  All are invited to meet on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. directly in Trumbull Congregational Church, 3115 Reservoir Ave., Trumbull, CT.  Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull, CT.
