Obituary of John R. Dineley

John Rodney Dineley, age 87, longtime resident of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Marilyn Scharf Dineley, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 at his home. Born in Boonton, New Jersey on July 15, 1934, he was a son of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Coles) Dineley.

John had a passion for aviation at a young age and began his long career of flying with the Royal Canadian Air Force before dedicating 35 years as a pilot with American Airlines. After his semi-retirement, he flew private planes and had the privilege of meeting many famous people including Aerosmith and Metallica. He also was an avid cyclist and runner and, at the age of 50, he ran the New York City Marathon. He was a man who lived his life to the fullest, but his true passion was his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and many dear friends.

John leaves behind many beloved family members: his three children, Stephen Dineley and his wife Johnna; two daughters, Christine Dineley and Sharon Garofano and her husband Gary; his brother, Doug Dineley and his wife Joyce; and four cherished grandchildren, Rachel and Ali Garofano, and Stevi and Joseph Dineley. He also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joe Dineley.
