Obituary of Vincent John DiLauro

Vincent John DiLauro, 78, recently of Bonita Springs, FL passed away unexpectedly on November 02, 2021. Vinny was born on June 19, 1943 to Filomena and John DiLauro in New Haven, CT. This is where Vinny spent his childhood, before going off to Providence College. It was at Providence where he made some of his closest friendships, which remained strong throughout his lifetime. Friendships lasting 60 years demonstrate the type of man Vinny was and how much people enjoyed being in his company. After college, Vincent met and married his beloved wife, Frances, and built a wonderful life together until Frances' passing in 2005. Together, they raised their three children, Michael, Mark and Melissa in Trumbull, CT. Michael's wife, Shana, and Mark's wife, Jennifer, joined our family and, for our Dad, became two new daughters for him to love and support. Family values and traditions were extremely important to our Dad. Every Sunday started with a trip to Frances' Bakery for donuts and salt sticks. Inevitably, our Uncle Louis and Aunts Lori, Lynn and Lisa would stop by and we'd share our mornings together. Then, we were off to Fay and John's for Sunday dinner, sports and maybe a game of cards. The backyard pool was often the meeting place for family and friends and Easter Brunch was an annual gathering. These countless memories are now cemented in our hearts forever. Vinny was a passionate NY sports and Big East basketball fan, always cheering and debating with his kids and Uncle Frank. He was an avid runner for most of his life, running many races across New England. Undoubtedly, Vinny's greatest joy was as a grandfather to his five grandchildren: Julia, Emma, Olivia, Jack and Alexa. Vinny spoke of them with so much love and pride, always taking them out to dinner, sleeping over during the holidays, attending their recitals, high school and college sporting events, and graduations. If they had a bad game, or fumbled a speech, all was forgotten once they got a big hug from Grandpa. Vinny was the most beloved grandfather and our hearts go out to his grandchildren who loved him tremendously. In 2011, Vinny met Francie Gingrich. Francie instantly became a welcomed addition to our family, as everyone could see the wonderful connection they had, and she brought so much joy to our father. They loved traveling together, spending summers in Maine and were looking forward to winters in Florida. They began every day with a game of cribbage and shared the love of the NY Times Crossword puzzles, family fantasy football leagues and life in general. Francie's family became an enormous part of Vinny's life, and to Francie's family, Vinny became Vincenzo. He had a very loving relationship with Francie's children: Jane (Sean), Emily (TJ) and Jack (Jess) and his newest grandchildren: Olivia, Josie, Jack, Nora, Cassidy and Beau. The Gingrich and DiLauro families will forever be entwined, which is yet another wonderful gift our Dad has given us. Calling hours will take place from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Abriola Funeral Home in Trumbull, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A service will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull for family and friends of Vinny. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a gift sent to St Jude's Children's Research Center (800-822-6344), under the Vincent DiLauro Memorial Fund (ID 22647325).
