Obituary of Charles J. Veres

Charles J. "Chuck" Veres, age 58, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Alison Duffy Veres, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at his home in Trumbull, CT. Born in Detroit, MI on November 14, 1962, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Diane (Gitre) Veres. Chuck received his Bachelor's Degree and MBA from the University of Chicago and upon graduation worked for CNA Insurance in Chicago. In 1990 he moved with his family to Trumbull to take a job at General Reinsurance Company in Stamford, CT. He worked for GenRe for over 30 years, right up until the afternoon of his death. He was a treasured employee there, earning the respect, admiration and affection of his peers.

In addition to being a loyal and hardworking employee, Chuck was a beloved father and husband. He met his wife Alison at the University of Chicago in 1981, and the couple stayed together ever since, marrying in 1986. Surviving family members include daughters Grace Imsirovic and her husband Jasmin of Cambridge, MA; Martha Veres Otto and her husband Erik of Wheaton, IL; and sons Leo Veres and his fiancée Shannon Anderson of Atlanta, GA and Ben Veres of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by brother Christopher Veres and sister Holly Veres and her husband Tom, of Rochester Hills, MI, and his mother Diane Veres Sciaudone and step-father Bob Sciaudone, and several loving nieces and nephews.

Chuck is also survived by non-human family members Hazel, Stevie and Stanley, his beloved cats. Chuck doted on them shamelessly and without apology and they were the luckiest cats in the world.

In recent years, Chuck had begun making plans for eventual retirement, and started to plant rose bushes, and fruit trees, flowering trees and grape arbors. Last year he set up a hive of honeybees which he tended with great care. When not working in the garden or on the house, Chuck was an avid collector of American coins. His collection is extensive. Chuck never did things half-way.

But cats, and gardens, and hobbies, and work aside, Chuck's primary objective was – first, foremost, and always-- to take care of his family. This he did with so much skill, and so much stamina, and so much generosity and so much heart that it can't be put into words. He was so proud of the kids, and so devoted to their safety and their success, their comfort and their happiness. He gave his family a beautiful life.

Chuck lived a life of dignity and grace.

His legacy will be a strong, happy and grateful family.

His death will leave an empty space that cannot be filled.

He will always be loved and appreciated.
