My Mom, Aunt Elaine, and Aunt Dolores were like three peas in a pod, you would think that they were like triplets. They supported each other all of their lives.
I will remember Aunt Dolores’ fantastic cooking, her sending cards for any and all occasions, her way of making you feel special in a pass of a gift without being overly dramatic. There was always a special surprise in every wrapper.
Aunt Dolores shared her love through her delicious cooking. Especially her homemade raviolis that she would prepare with her daughter and sisters for large, family holidays - her potato salad, her meatballs, deviled eggs, and roast beef sandwiches. She never came to a party empty handed. I will always remember the warmest of holidays with my Aunts and cousins, the feeling of togetherness and love, and the smell of plenty of good food at every party at Aunt Dolores and Uncle Secs’ home. We ate in waves and socialized in between. She loved playing cards and bowling and how she instilled the love of bowling in others.
Aunt Dolores will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strength, and the way she took care of others. I recall a very special evening a year or two ago at Linda’s house. The Aunts shared funny stories about growing up together with the common theme of how dependent they were on each other and how they took care of each other. My Mom shared one story about how Aunt Dolores got hit with a baseball bat by a boy in their neighborhood that was bothering my Mom. She ended up getting hit because she was trying to protect her. My Mom told how they took a long road trip to pick up their beloved brother Bobby from camp because he was so unhappy and how much trouble they got into for doing it.
Aunt Dolores was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. I feel she is watching down on us from above and will continue to take care of us and make us feel loved.
