Obituary of Julius J. Fotta

Julius Joseph George Fotta, age 98, of Trumbull, died on Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Hrabkov, Czechoslovakia on January 19, 1911, he was the former proprietor of Georges Market in Bridgeport, played on and was the manager of an Industrial League Softball Team, the Bamby Bakers. He was a longtime resident of Stratford before recently moving to Trumbull. He was also retired from Dresser Industries. Mr. Fotta was a lifelong Yankee fan, and with his family attended a game in the final year of the old Yankee Stadium. He had a passion for playing pinochle and bingo and was a member of the First Plavecky Society of the Holy Trinity and the American Russian Sick Benefit Society. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Anna Fotta. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Kmetz and her husband David, a son, James Fotta and his wife Lois, eight grandchildren, David Kmetz, RuthAnne Szumski and her husband Christopher, Christopher Kmetz and his wife Jeanne, Sandra Vucjak and her husband Robert, Jennifer Hollifield and her husband Jeffrey, Cynthia Sutton and her husband Jason, Steven Fotta and Thomas Fotta, great grandchildren, Lindsay and Thomas Kmetz, Elizabeth and Rebecca Szumski, Megan and Daniel Kmetz, Lucas and Emily Hollifield and Will, Stewart and Charlie Smith, brothers and sisters, Christine Schefkind, Josephine Bensko, Lena Marley, Pasquale Mainiero and Dorothy Congdon as well as several nieces and nephews, including a very special and thoughtful niece, Rose Marie Street. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
