Obituary of Nicholas T. Mariconda

Resident of Bridgeport Nicholas T. Mariconda, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Helen DiMenna Mariconda, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on August 6, 1918, he was a son of the late Thomas and Jennie Rutolo Mariconda. He retired as a general foreman at Sikorsky Aircraft after over 20 years of service. He served as a musician playing the trombone in the U. S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex during World War II. He was a musician in Fairfield County playing with many dance bands and orchestras, such as the Gene Hull and the Paul King Orchestra. He later formed a band with his sons and nephews. He was a great influence and mentor to many area musicians. His house was always a hangout to many music friends. He also enjoyed Folk Art style painting. Survivors include two sons, Nicholas G. Mariconda of Stratford and Glenn Mariconda of Bridgeport, two grandchildren, Glen Mariconda and his wife, Asaka of New York City and Marissa Mariconda of Los Angeles, CA, three brothers, Domenick, Thomas and Salvatore Mariconda, three sisters, Mary Mottola, Shirley Toth and Jean Guidone, daughter-in-law, Barbara Mariconda, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased by two sisters, Tina Peters and Ann Esposito. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in St. James Church, 2110 Main St. , Stratford, on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
