Obituary of Anthony V. Bacarella

Anthony V. Bacarella, age 69, of Fairfield, founder of Bacarella Transportation Services, died on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 14, 1940, he was the son of the late Rosario and Josephine Bacarella of Trumbull and a United States Marine Corps Veteran.

Tony was a pioneer in the Air Freight Industry. A JFK mainstay Tony relocated his family to Connecticut from New York in 1969. He was a Trumbull resident for over 30 years and was actively involved with Trumbull Little League and the Trumbull Ranger Pop Warner Football program. He was a past president of the Trumbull Italian Community Center as well as the Pop Warner Football program. Most will remember Tony at every sporting event cheering his many grandchildren on from the stands or the sidelines. An avid sports fan, Tony supported his favorite teams, most notably the NY Mets and the NY Football Giants.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife of 31 years, Silvana LaRosa Bacarella.

A devoted family man, Tony leaves behind his wife Barbara Thompson Bacarella, two sons, Rosario Bacarella and his wife Susan of Trumbull, their children, Michael-Anthony, Katherine, Joseph, Brian, Julia and Samantha, Leonard Bacarella of Monroe and his girlfriend Verity Rollins and children, Anthony, Nicholas Francis and Nathan, his daughter, Claudia Ghitsa and her husband Christopher of Trumbull, their children Gianna and Mia Silvana. He is also survived by his step-children, Wyatt Freed and his wife Lucy of Delaware, their children, Piper and Vail, Wade Freed and his wife Mari of Georgia, their children, Isabella, P.J. and Juliana and Vance Freed of Wyoming, as well as his sister, Mary Ann Pintek of Bridgeport. In addition he leaves behind many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. 

Friends are invited to meet directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
