Obituary of M. Gloria Maina

Dr. M. Gloria Osso Maina, age 83, of Trumbull, passed away at home on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Born in Bridgeport on February 23, 1931, she was a daughter of the late John and Marie A. Seamon Osso. Dr. Maina was a graduate of Bassick High School and Hartt School of Music in Hartford and received a Doctorate of Administration in Florida. She was a long-time resident of Bridgeport before moving to Trumbull nearly 40 years ago. She began her teaching career at John Winthrop Elementary School in Bridgeport in 1962. Shortly after, she taught at Wilbur Cross Elementary School and McKinley School. In 1975, Dr. Maina was named principal, dedicated to mentoring numerous students, at Read Middle School where she retired in 1992. Through her love of music, she was a devoted member of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Symphony. Additionally, she was a former member of ADK Sorority, Bridgeport Education Association (Negotiation Committees), and served on various committees of the Trumbull Board of Education. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren brought her much joy and life watching them as they have grown in their adult years. Her focus was to teach life-long lessons and provide continuous wisdom to her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her loving daughter, Judith Miko and her husband, William, Jr. of Shelton, a son, Edmund Maina and his wife Roxi of Pembroke Pines, FL, five grandchildren, Michael Church, Justin Maina, Priscilla Wagner, John Miko and Lauren Miko, three great grandchildren, Cora Gregory, Michael Anthony Church and Lila Delany, an aunt, Malfalda Crouch, a dear cousin, Arlene Markus of Milford as well as several additional cousins and many dear friends. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
