Obituary of Eugene J. Magi

Eugene J. Magi, a Trumbull resident for 61 years, died on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the age of 86. Born on September 18, 1924 in Bridgeport, he was the beloved husband of Velia (Val) Anzidei Magi for 64 years and the son of the late Baldisero (Bill) and Anna DiPronio Magi. He was a graduate of Central High School, the Bridgeport Engineering Institute (now Fairfield University) and the University of Bridgeport where he earned a BS in Engineering. He also earned a Masters Degree from Central Connecticut State University and a 6 year teaching certificate from Sacred Heart University. He was the department chairman of the I. A. Department at Trumbull High School for over 20 years. Prior to that he held engineering positions at Singer, Avco, M.B. Electronics and U. S. Baird. He taught at Platt School as an aviation specialist and also at BEI and UB. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific as an Aviation Machinist Third Class and flew in the first twin engine plane from Hawaii to the Mainland in a PBM.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Dr./J.D. Judith Magi Chervenak and her husband Dr. Frank Chervenak of New York City and Barbara Magi Tarasovich, CPA, of Shelton, an Assistant Professor at Sacred Heart University, two grandchildren, Francis Anthony and Joseph John Chervenak, his granddog, Alexandra Tarasovich, his brother, William Magi and sister Dolores Caruso and their spouses, Mary Magi and Joseph Caruso as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by his sister-in-law, Gloria Anzidei Whitaker, son-in-law, Jonathan Tarasovich and his mother and father-in-law, Oliver and Louisa Anzidei.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Lord Chamberlain Manor for the care and compassionate care given to Gene. 

Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Sacred Heart University through the funeral home for an accounting scholarship in his name because he believed in the power of education.
