Obituary of John Joseph Formanek

John Joseph (Huck) Formanek Jr., age 83, of Stratford, beloved husband of Joan Keane Formanek, died peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the West Haven Veterans Hospital. Born on January, 24, 1930, in New York, New York, he was a son of the late John and Agnes Mangin Formanek. John received his Bachelors Degree in 1951 from Manhattan College and earned his MBA from New York University in 1959. He was a retired sales executive for the General Electric Company, with over 40 years of dedicated service. On September 15, 1956, he married the love of his life, Joan P. Keane in New York City. Before settling in Stratford, he was a resident of New York, Boston, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Shelton. A U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War, he received numerous awards, citations and medals for his service, including two Purple Hearts, the Korean Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal. John was also Past Commander of VFW Post 10466. He was an avid fresh and salt water fisherman and accomplished artist. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Joan, survivors include three sons, Steven J. Formanek and his wife Denise of Norwalk, CT, Peter J. Formanek and his wife Bari of Scarsdale, NY and Mark J. Formanek of Stratford, CT, five grandchildren, Erika Formanek, Sam Formanek, Laura Formanek, Marah Formanek and Raquel Formanek and his former daughter-in-law, Maria A. Formanek. He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Formanek. Funeral Information Friends can greet the family at a memorial gathering celebrating his life on Thursday September 26, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday September 26, 2013 at 11:00 am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT.
