Obituary of Gerardo Castro
Gerardo "Gerry" Castro, age 55, beloved husband of Julie Thompson Castro, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Gerry was born in Havana, Cuba on October 20, 1969. Before settling in Connecticut, Gerry cherished many fond memories of living in New York City with his mother and aunts. It was there that he developed a deep love for the city's vibrant energy—its sights, sounds, and unforgettable smells (especially the pizza). These early experiences stayed with him throughout his life, and he often spoke about how he looked forward to sharing those memories with his beloved wife, Julie, and daughter, Veronica.
Gerry was currently employed at Franklin Madison Insurance Company. He joined the company in 2000 as a Senior Production Programmer on the Data Base Modeling Team. Over the years, he grew to become an integral part of the organization, and since 2018, he served as a Senior Data Processing Analyst.
Gerry was an avid hockey fan and loved watching the New York Rangers. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to and playing music as well as playing video games. On the weekends he could be found in the kitchen making pizzas and waffles for Julie and Veronica. He was such a movie buff that he built a home theatre with a candy bar and a popcorn machine. Gerry's favorite season of the year was Fall, the cool weather, the color of the leaves and especially Halloween. Gerry looked forward to decorating the house to stand out in the neighborhood. Above all else, his greatest happiness came from the moments he shared with Julie and Veronica. Whether it was quiet afternoons at home, family trips, or simply enjoying each other's company, these moments were his most cherished. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife Julie, survivors include a cherished daughter, Veronica, his mother, Maria Gonzalez, an aunt Elisa Gonzalez, a sister Claire Razzano and her husband Frank and a nephew, Elijah as well as many other family members, friends and loved ones. He also leaves his beloved corgi, Yucca.
Friends can greet the family at a memorial gathering that will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
