Obituary of Virginia N. Fisher

Virginia Notari Fisher of Shelton, CT and formerly of Bedminster, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.

Virginia, called Ginny throughout her life, was born in Newark, NJ on December 5, 1938, the daughter of Frederick J. Notari, an insurance broker, and Virginia Marlar Notari, an elementary school teacher. In addition to her beloved husband David, of 62 years, survivors include two loving daughters, Jessica Goldstein (Ronnie) and Andrea Berkley (Evan), four grandchildren, Ben, Alex and Kate Berkley and Hannah Goldstein, as well as several nieces and nephews. A brother, Anthony F. Notari, predeceased her in 2017.

Ginny received a B.A. from Bucknell University and a Master's Degree in Public Law and Government from Columbia University, where she met her husband. They married in Upper Montclair, New Jersey in 1962 and resided in New York City for 20 years. During this time, Ginny worked in international student admissions at Long Island University, New York University and Brooklyn Polytech.

In 1979, she and her family, including two young daughters, moved to Basking Ridge, NJ. Missing working with an international clientele, she joined Forward Mobility, Inc, Bernardsville, NJ, as a relocation associate. There, she won an Annual President's Award and, on two occasions, its Outstanding Consultant Award. Ginny spent the remainder of her career in relocation, working for Relocation Dynamics, Somerville, NJ, which later became SIRVA Relocation. She retired in 2006.

Serving her community was always important in Ginny's life. She was an active volunteer with the Girl Scouts and was also a devoted volunteer for Crossroads 4 Hope, which provides social and emotional support for cancer patients and their families. In 2013, she earned its Spirit of Service Award. She was also an active member of the Bedminster Democratic Committee. Ginny was a two-time recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt Award (2016 and 2023), which honors women in Somerset County (NJ) working to improve their communities.

Ginny loved reading, cooking, and enjoying nature. But nothing gave her more pleasure than time with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge, NJ on Sunday, February 2nd at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia's memory can be made to Crossroads 4 Hope via this link.
