Obituary of James F. Burns

James Francis Burns, 93, of Crosby Commons in Shelton, passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on April 8th, 1931, he was the son of the late Francis and Catherine Burns. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan Burns; and sisters, Margaret Rea, Frances Coates, and niece Deborah Coates. James was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, spouse, friend and more. A man of immense wisdom, he was witty, kind, charming, and talented. He loved dancing, golfing, swimming, traveling, along with spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

After serving in the Army, he earned his degree as an electrical engineer, completing 9 years of night school, while also working at Avco Lycoming in Stratford. He had a long rewarding career for over 40 years, and retired from a Vice President position at Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut. He was a well-respected successful engineer.

James's memory will be embraced by his children; Kathy (George) Garamy, Nancy (Mark) Piccirillo, James (Grace) Burns, Robin (Larry) Scermino, Lynn (Garry) Hughes and his grandchildren; Matthew, Christopher, Tyler, Austin, Alyssa, Mark, Paige, Kelli, Dane and his great-grandchildren Tyler and Jordan along with other extended family members.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Bridgeport Hospital for their care and compassion, along with the staff and many friends at Crosby Commons.

The service will be held Saturday, January 25th, 2025 from 11am-2pm at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 pm . Military Honors will be rendered at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
