Obituary of William J. Chantlos

William John Chantlos, age 86, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine (Toronto) Chantlos. Born in Bridgeport on July 23, 1938 he was the son of the late John W. and Anna (Gerda) Chantlos. William was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport before serving honorably in the U.S. Army, where he was proud to be a crane operator, before his subsequent discharge. Upon his return from the service, Mr. Chantlos went to work for Sikorsky Aircraft and later found employment as a meat cutter, where he worked alongside his father-in-law at Blue Ribbon Packing Company. Most recently however, and for the majority of his working career, he had worked in warehouse logistics, building many friendships along the way.

He was an avid N.Y. Yankee fan.  He enjoyed many years of camping, and traveling, which included various cruises and the occasional trip to the casino with his late wife, Katherine, friends and his family. William was a simple man who led a modest life and will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving children, Michele Townsend and her husband Thomas of Shelton and Daniel Chantlos of Stratford, his cherished grandchildren, Sarah, John, Zack and Katie Chantlos and Christopher Townsend and his wife Jessica and Lauren Townsend, his adored great grandchildren, Zoey, Henry and Eloise, his sister, Jane Antonini and her husband Frank of Stratford, and sister-in-law, Marylou Lemke of Prospect. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Katherine, he was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Karen Bodie.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Stratford.
