Obituary of Barbara J. Sterling

Barbara J. (MacGregor) Sterling, age 96, of Stratford and formerly of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation in Fairfield. She was the wife of the late Jack Sterling of New Canaan. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 1, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Whelan) MacGregor. Barbara earned her bachelor’s degree from Marymount College before beginning her long and varied career, eventually as an event planner for U.S. Tobacco in Greenwich and then as an Administrative Assistant at the Maples Inn, New Canaan. She was a woman of great faith and enjoyed singing in the choirs at St. Aloysius in New Canaan and most recently at St. Theresa Church in Trumbull.  

She is survived by her six daughters, Patricia Sterling Milkey and her husband Steve of Jacksonville, FL, Beth Sterling Valandra and her husband Kent of Los Angeles, CA, Catharine Sterling of Stratford, Susan Richards of Stratford, Nancy Sterling of Chadds Ford, PA and Linda Sterling of New Canaan as well as her grandchild Duncan Richards of Washington Heights, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Jack, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Douglas MacGregor. 

Friends and relatives may greet the family on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ.
