Obituary of Nancy L. Curley
After 91 years of love and laughter, Nancy Lee Nagem Curley of Bridgeport entered peacefully into rest on October 28, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She joins her beloved late husband Edward F. Curley, Jr., parents Anthony and Agnes Nagem (née Wakin), sister Mary Ann Sicilian and her husband John, sister Joyce Nagem, and many cherished family members in eternal rest.
Survivors include Nancy's eight devoted children: Sheree Parker and her husband Mitch, Jeffrey Curley and his wife Christine, Michael Curley and his wife Darlene, James Curley and his wife Yolanda, Jill Capra and her husband Joe, Suzy Browning and her husband Jim, Andrea Hathaway and her husband Bill, and Alicia Curley and her partner Chris Watts; her thirteen incredible grandchildren: Jillian, Diana and Anthony Curley, Jamie, Travis (wife Jenna), and Michayla Curley, Tyler and Brooke Capra, Dr. Sabrina Browning (husband Tom Kraynak) and Olivia Rahrig (husband Matt), Ryan and Austin Hathaway (Hannah Martin) and Cameron Connelly; nine (soon to be ten) great grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness: James, Mackenzie, Zayden, Elijah, Bennett, Logan, Camden, Dallas, and Maddox; and special nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Born in Anaheim, California on September 7, 1933, the proud daughter of Lebanese immigrants who ultimately planted roots in Bridgeport, Nancy was truly a woman before her time, winning the 1953 YMCA basketball championship with the Madisonettes, which she founded with her friends. She attended New Haven State Teacher's College and worked at City Trust Bank before marrying the love of her life, Ed, and starting the family that would become #TeamCurley.
Nancy spent her life creating a legacy as best friend, mom, and Grammy Nancy to all. Her home was the neighborhood gathering place for her children and their friends, and she welcomed family, friends, and acquaintances from near and far, always with a story, a joke, and, in true Lebanese fashion, a table full of delicious food. For 25 years, Nancy was proud co-owner of the Country Store in Westport with her daughter Alicia, sharing her famous rice pudding with their loyal customers. Her biggest joy in life was cooking for and spending time with her family, especially her weekly tradition of Sunday Dinner, which her family will carry on with pride, along with her love for basketball, storytelling, and any movie with a 4-star rating. Nancy's strength, devotion, sense of humor, and selfless heart made her, quite simply, "the best of the best".
The family would like to thank longtime friend of the family and caregiver, Hazel Smith, and Dr. Bill and Mary Fitzgerald for their unwavering support.
