Obituary of James Rubis

James Rubis (88) of Monroe passed away peacefully on October 4th, 2024 with his family lovingly by his side. He was a devoted husband of 62 years to his wife Gloria. He provided his children (Michael, Christopher, and Michele), their spouses (Sandra, Elisa, and Jeffrey), and grandchildren (Lauren, “Kip”, Brandon, and Colin) all the love, comfort, and humor a family could ask for. Born May 9th, 1936, he was the son of the late Costa and Kostaqe Rubis. He was the brother of the late Michael Rubis. Jim is survived by his cherished sister Viola as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

A Bridgeport native and U.S. Army Veteran, Jim proudly served with the 3rd Infantry Honor Guard for President Dwight Eisenhower. Jim spent over 50 years in the food business as the District Manager for Shoprite supermarkets and owner of the former Toll Mart Deli in Monroe. He touched the lives of many as he worked, conversed, and mentored from behind the counter. In the past Jim would have been found hunting the snack aisle at the grocery store before a New York Giants game, attending all his kids sporting events at Masuk High School, or watching a Staples High School football game. A few favorite things as he aged were memorable family beach vacations, funny conversations with relatives during holidays, and affectionately becoming known as “Gampy”.

The family would like to thank the talented and caring doctors and nurses at Bridgeport Hospital (7th floor) who handled Jim’s Hospice Care.

Private services are for the immediate family only under the direction of Abriola Parkview Funeral home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
