Obituary of Louis Joseph DeBiase

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis Joseph DeBiase, who left this world on October 6, 2024, at the age of 87, Born on September 11, 1937, to Anthony Gerald DeBiase and Theresa Tozzi DeBiase, Louis lived a life filled with love, laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith. Louis was the beloved husband of Marjorie DeBiase, with whom he shared his life in marriage for 62 years. Together, they raised a large family that he was so very proud of, which includes their cherished children: Geraldine Higgins, Marie DeBiase-Rodrigues (Orlando), Louis DeBiase Jr., Judy Scala (Mike), and John DeBiase (Justyna). Louis was also an extremely proud grandfather to his grandchildren: Alexander Louis Larios, Lauren Rodrigues, Lindsey Rodrigues, Nicholas DeBiase Rodrigues, Louis DeBiase III, Anthony DeBiase, John DeBiase Jr., and Justin DeBiase. He also shared a special bond and was quite amused with his loving cat, Sebastian. He is survived by his loving sisters, Geraldine Scarpetti and Charlene Scofield, along with brother-in-law Richard Scofield, and his sister Kathy Falzarano and brother-in-law Gabriel Falzarano and many very special, Nieces and Nephews. Louis was predeceased by his Beloved Parents, cherished brother, Anthony DeBiase (Sonya) and brother-in-law Robert Scarpetti Sr. A devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Augustine's Cathedral, Louis had a profound love for his church community, dedicating over 50 years to assisting with Mass and fostering meaningful relationships with his fellow parishioners. His faith was truly a guiding light in his life. Louis's educational journey began at St. Augustine's K-8 and culminated with his graduation from Bullard Havens in 1956. He proudly served as a Corporal in the National Guard from 1955 to 1965. His career as a Plumbing Inspector for the City of Bridgeport allowed him to contribute to the community he loved, where he made lasting connections and friendships. So grateful for his lifelong friendship with Mr. & Mrs. Don Akin. Louis's impact on the hearts of those in Bridgeport is immeasurable. Known affectionately as "Uncle Lou" or "Big Lou," he was a man who's larger than life personality, warm smile and generous spirit endeared him to everyone he met. He had a unique ability to make each person feel special, with his witty words and words of wisdom, they were a source of laughter and inspiration to many. Louis also made a lasting imprint on the hearts of many throughout the Hollow as he was also remembered for his family's legacy as the owners of Pop's Variety Store, a beloved landmark. A true family man, Louis cherished every moment spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved family celebrations, gatherings, and vacations, always finding joy in the simplest of moments sitting outside and enjoying a beautiful day. He also had a lifelong passion for the sport of Basketball which he played throughout his life. His legacy of love, kindness, and genuine connection will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we celebrate the life of Louis Joseph DeBiase, let us remember the laughter, the love, and the unwavering support he provided to his family and friends. His spirit will live on in our cherished memories, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 11:00 directly in St. Augustine Cathedral, 359 Washinton Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. At the request of Lou, relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 9 am – 11:00 am in St. Augustine's Cathedral.
