Mary was always Mrs. Apicella to me. I am one of Deb’s closest friends since kindergarten. We lived a church and two houses away.
I would go every school morning when we were in junior high and high school to gather Deb so we could walk to school. Mrs. A was always in the kitchen having her coffee.
I would waltz in and say” hi Mrs. A on my way up to Deb’s bedroom.” As we were leaving, “bye, Mrs. A.”
The interesting part was I would walk in , in my “ appropriate” school clothes and walk out in my dungarees. Mrs. A never told my mom, never said a word. Either she was not awake enough to notice or she was loyal to me. I spent a lot of time at Deb’s house with her family. It was like a second home to me. She was warm , loving and kind to me and my family.
