Would like to send deepest condolences to the D’Elia family. Valarie was a warm hearted woman. She will be missed by all. I would also like to clarify that I was not a cheerleader. Valarie was the one cheering on back then. Gayle

I met Valerie at Madison Jr. High School in 7th grade. The year was 1971. She sat in back of me in home room, and I remember always coming in and turning around and talking with her. I found her to be really easy to talk to, and she had had this quit wit about her, and said some really funny things, in which I could relate to, and we would laugh. We had a good flow through the junior high and high school years. I was always glad to see her. I used to go over her house now and again in Trumbull and I enjoyed talking with her Mom Rita, her Dad, Paul, and her brother, Dan. I thought they were all very witty and intelligent to talk to. I was so saddened to learn that she had passed away. I had not seen her smiling face since the 40th Reunion to Trumbull High School at Old Mine Park. She lived in New York, and I lost contact with her after the 40th reunion. After attending her service, I felt a profound sense of loss. I felt very saddened for her family and her wonderful partner, Ron. I felt sad for her friends, and all those lives she touched in one way or another, wherever she went. I even felt saddened for myself, because she was my peer, and an old childhood classmate, and friend. It was the end of five decades of life that we had lost along life's journey. I was really glad that Valerie had a full, satisfying life, and that she realized all of her career goals and her travel goals. She took each and every day of life, as if it were a blank page, and filled up the page and lived life to the fullest. The world is definitely a smaller place without Valerie in it. Most importantly, Valerie had the love of family and friends around her, and we all will continue to hold her in our hearts and in our minds forevermore. May God be with her spirit. Sue DelBianco and family.

Our deepest condolences to Ron and family. Valarie what can I say… from cheerleading and pep squad in seventh grade through high school, skiing in Vermont to our home town in Italy. We always had a lot of laughs and I will miss you terribly. So hard to believe. Love you sis. Gayle

My sincere condolences to Ron and the entire D'Elia family. I will always remember Valarie as a kind and spirited person who was so passionate about her life and her work as a travel correspondent. I was delighted to learn of her interest in her Italian roots, which became just another way for her to demonstrate her passion. We first met in the fall of 1982 when she assumed a reporter/anchor position I had vacated at WICC Radio in Bridgeport. At the time, it was an information powerhouse and it served as Valarie's career springboard. She moved to New York and we maintained contact during the ensuing decades. We shared a love of dogs and she came to visit wherever I was residing at the time. I will remember Valarie forever. I am certain others' memories of Valarie are similar. May these happy and fond memories of Valarie comfort her family, friends, and colleagues during this sad time. Farewell my friend.
