Obituary of Dorothy Steinbrick

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Louise Kmetz Steinbrick of Seymour, following a brief illness, on September 8, 2024.

Dorothy was born to the late Andrew and Ludmilla Kmetz on February 6, 1940 in Scranton, PA. She graduated from Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield, CT and received her nursing degree from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, where she met her beloved husband, Frederick J. Steinbrick, Jr. They married in 1961 and enjoyed 50+ years of marriage, 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Dorothy, also known as Dort or Dottie, loved being a nurse and taking care of people. She worked in several areas of nursing, providing compassionate patient care both in the hospital and private settings. Most recently, at age 82, she retired from Griffin Hospital. There she made many cherished friends, who visited her frequently while she courageously fought her illness. One of her greatest joys was planning and cooking for family gatherings as well as sharing her recipes and cooking with her grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Frederick and their eldest son Fred, her sister Judy Leninger, brother-in-law Ernest R. Krajcik and brother-in-law William Reed. She is survived by her children Ellen Steinbrick, Karen Kalach and her husband Jim, Andrew Steinbrick and his wife Lynn, her daughter-in-law Barbara Steinbrick, as well as "Gram's" 10 cherished grandchildren, Nick (Kristen), Max (Melissa), Erin (Noah), P.J. (Jaymie), Jimmy, Bethany (Ben), Willy, Alex, Emmy and Carly, sister Rosalie Krajcik, brother-in-law Paul Leninger Sr., sister-in-law Sandra Reed, as well several nieces, nephews, great-granddaughter Ella, cousins and cherished friends.
