Obituary of Robert W. Benko

Robert W. Benko, age 77, of Durham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at his home. Born in Bridgeport on January 10, 1947, he was a son of the late Andrew and Loretta Ceplousky Benko and was a former resident of Wallingford and a 40 year resident of Durham. Mr. Benko was a proud U.S. Marine Corp veteran and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Prior to retirement he worked at the U.S. Postal Service in downtown Bridgeport.

He was an avid outdoorsman, backpacking in the White Mountains every year, He loved to tour this beautiful country and enjoyed white water rafting in Idaho.  His doggies, Brandy and LuLa will miss him dearly.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Baldino Benko, three loving daughters, Denise Giordano and her husband Steve and Rebecca  Benko, all  of  Nampa, Idaho, and Nicole Grover  and her husband Chuck of Foster, RI,  nine cherished grandchildren, Zachary Giordano and his wife Amber, Briana Michels and her husband Matt, Payton Kearns, Waylon Kearns, Shayla, Alexis, Charlie, Aiden, Jaxson and Savannah Grover, five great grandchildren, Mason, Maddox and Hailey Giordano, Aria and Evie Michels, two brothers, Michael and Andrew Benko, both of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial followed by Full Military Honors. Interment will be conducted at the convenience of the family.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY  10306, www.t2t.org.
