I am sorry for your loss. I was John’s barber for years, but mostly he was my dear friend. He will be greatly missed.

I was so sorry to receive a call this week alerting me to Johnny's death. While its been over a decade since I moved from Connecticut I will forever remember his gentle and calm demeanor and telling smile as we would play weekend after weekend at Lyman Orchards. While John lived with a heart that was a challenge he was always the first to ask how I was feeling and how my kids were.
John was also a keen competitor on the golf course. I hated to lose to him as he would hit clutch shots near the end of a match and so enjoyed the laughs throughout the round,
I will miss John. In these past few days I have enjoyed remembering the time I was fortunate to share with him and how some days his modest grin would evolve into a full out belly laugh. John was a classic gentleman who made the world he touched a truly better place,

I’m so sorry to learn of John’s passing. He and I went to Saint Patrick’s Catholic School in Bridgeport together and graduated in that school’s class of 1969. After graduating from St. Pat’s, he and I were the only two members of our class to attend and subsequently graduate from Fairfield Prep, in the Prep class of 1973. (As I recall, there were about thirty boys in the two eighth grade sections of St. Pat’s. Only six of us applied to Prep, and John and I were the only ones to get accepted.) Although we lost touch with each other after going to college, I nevertheless do remember that throughout our childhood and into our teenage years, he was a quiet and soft-spoken friend, with never a bad word for anyone, and with always a smile on his face. To John’s family I offer my expression of condolence. (I’m sorry that I won’t be able to present this sentiment in person, as I no longer reside in the area.) —Gregory Hugh Marshall
