Obituary of Mary C. Moran

Mary Chapar Moran, beloved wife of the late Stephen J. Moran, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 90, and was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport on August 1, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Zekie Daniel Chapar, who were immigrants from Syria. She was pre-deceased by her beloved siblings: Nicholas Chapar, Abraham Chapar, and Nassa Chapar Sam.

Mary was a proud graduate of Central High School, where she was a cheerleader. She was known for her warm and outgoing personality and had many friends. During the 1980's, Mary was a realtor with Toth and Formato Realty in Black Rock, and she ran the S&M Deli in Fairfield with her husband. She was an excellent cook, and especially enjoyed making Middle Eastern food and desserts. Mary was passionate about sports and was a big fan of the NY Giants, NY Yankees and the UCONN Lady Huskies.

In 1989, Mary made history when she was elected as the first woman Mayor of the City of Bridgeport, and she served in that capacity until 1991. She has received numerous awards, honors, and accolades and was featured on the CBS show 60 Minutes. Mary was well respected as the Mayor, and in her personal life, because of her honesty, integrity, and character. She was always willing to help anyone in need and showed kindness to everyone. In 1995, the Moran Family moved to Trumbull, where Mary served as a Police Commissioner, and the Trumbull Tax Collector.

Mary is survived by her three loving children: Sheri Lynn Socci, Mary Christine Moran, and Stephen Michael Moran; as well as four cherished and adored grandchildren: Victoria Socci, Philip Socci and his wife Jenna, Aidan Kallmeyer, and Alexander Kallmeyer, her cousin Nasra Capar; and many nieces and nephews.

The Moran Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and aides at St. Vincent's Hospital, Northbridge Health Care Center, Constellation Hospice, and Spring Village Assisted Living for the care and compassion shown to Mary over the past six months.

Relatives and friends may greet the Moran Family on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 4-7 pm in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. At Mary's request, all other services will be held privately.
