Obituary of Emery Ihasz
Emery Ihasz, 88 of Shelton, a beloved husband of Sarolta, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 07, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Emery was born on November 6, 1935, in Vönöck, Vas County in Hungary.
Emery emigrated from Hungary at age 17 and arrived in the United States by age 20. He graduated from college and joined the armed forces, which included service while in Korea. Emery was a devoted Catholic since his early years, and religion guided him throughout his life. He even considered becoming a priest. He was a great scholar with exceptional grades. He learned many languages: Latin, German, Russian, English, and Hungarian. Emery, in his earlier years, was a dedicated part of the St. Emery Church in Fairfield. In his later years, St. Lawrence Parish in Shelton became his and Sarolta's second home. Emery was a member of the American Hungarian Club where he used to recite poems and native songs on occasion.
He was a skilled tradesman, tool setter and jig grinder specialist for many years at Moore Special Tools in Bridgeport. He traveled around the US and Europe, sharing his expertise, and teaching the skills and proficiencies of his trade. After his retirement, he loved working around the house, fixing, upgrading, and improving everything. He always explored all options to find the best solution. Emery treasured the time spent with family and friends, enjoyed celebrating everybody's special events by entertaining with delicious Hungarian food, sharing never ending lifetime stories, and singing folk songs. He was an expert player of Chess, Nine Man's Morris, and Sudoku.
He will be missed by his family and friends, however his impact on them will remain cherished in their hearts forever.
In addition to his beloved wife Sarolta, survivors include stepdaughter, Andrea (John) and stepdaughter Agnes, and four cherished step grandchildren as well as a niece, Nellie (Tamas) and a great niece, Laura. He was predeceased by a sister, Olga.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Friends may greet the family on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the mass. Arrangements in care of the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence Parish, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton 06484.
