Obituary of Thomas Sr. & Olga Vitale

Thomas L. Vitale Sr., age 80, and Olga Martinez Vitale, age 81, of Easton, both passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 9, 2024, into the loving arms of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thomas was born in Bridgeport on December 17, 1943, and was the son of the late Patrick J. Sr. and Catherine DeGirolamo Vitale. Olga was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico, on May 2, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Miguel A. and Maria T. Vargas Martinez.

Thomas and his brothers owned and operated Lane's Hair Stylist for many years, with Olga working right by his side. Thomas proudly served in the Army National Guard. They were dedicated parishioners of Notre Dame of Easton Church, teaching Confirmation classes, serving on many committees, and volunteering countless hours. They enjoyed doing for others and spreading the word of God to whoever needed to hear it.

Both Thomas and Olga enjoyed traveling, having gone cross-country with their family. They would go camping in their RV every chance they got. Olga always did her puzzles with a cup of tea and meticulously decorated their home for every holiday, especially Christmas, thanks to her frequent visits to Goodwill. Thomas was a leader on many mission trips and marched in Washington, D.C., defending his beliefs. He looked forward to building projects at the Home Depot with all the children in his family on the first Saturday of every month.

Thomas and Olga were married for 58 years. Their love for each other showed in every aspect of their lives. They were dedicated to the care and love of those who called them Mom and Dad, Ama and Papa, Cousin, Auntie Olga, and Uncle Tom. The values they taught and the unconditional love they gave will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.

Their survivors include their loving children, Joanna Vitale Goncalves and her husband Jack, Jennifer Vitale Larson and her husband Greg, Thomas Vitale Jr, and Christopher M. Vitale. They left behind eight cherished grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Makayla, Ashley and Joaquim Goncalves, Ethan, Gabriel and Isabella Vitale, Jason Larson and Devin Vitale, as well as their great-grandchildren, Lily, Emma, and Jackson.

Thomas also leaves a brother, Patrick Vitale Jr, and his wife, Marceline, as well as several nieces and nephews. Thomas was predeceased by his sister, Grace Rowland, and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Barbara Vitale.

Olga leaves a sister, Migdalia M. Kollar, and several nieces and nephews; she was predeceased by her sister, M. Teresa Martinez, and brother-in-law, Robert Kollar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. directly in Notre Dame of Easton Church, 655 Morehouse Rd., Easton. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
