Obituary of Helena Loureiro

Helena Loureiro Lopes, age 59, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent's Hospital on Monday April 15, 2024 after a courageous battle. Helena was born on December 24, 1964 in Negage, Angola, to Teresa DeJesus Carreiras Loureiro and the late Francisco Lopes. Her family arrived to Connecticut when she was 9 years old, and she has been a resident of Bridgeport since. Helena earned her Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of Bridgeport, and also a Graduate certificate in Cybersecurity from Fairfield University. She was highly interested in the evolving world of computer technology. Helena was currently employed at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in West Haven as an IT technician, and also taking classes at Fairfield University to further her education and obtain a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Helena was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Even in difficult times, Helena's unwavering faith and commitment to Our Lady of Fatima church remained strong. Helena will always be remembered for her ambition, confident personality, and of course her love for Portugal and the Portuguese culture. Helena will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her mother, Teresa, she is survived by her two brothers, Manuel Jorge Lopes (Manuela), and Mario Lopes, nieces and nephews, Nicole Tupka (Michael), Jonathan Lopes (Stacy), and Chelsea Lopes (Adam), along with her great nieces and nephews, Julien, Hailey, Chloe, Brooklyn, Jaxon, Hudson and Brennan, as well as many family members in the United States and Portugal. She was predeceased by a brother Abilio Lopes and her sister-in-law Sharon Dempsey Lopes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will be in Barcelos, Portugal. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
