Obituary of Josephine M. Mayzel

Josephine M. (Giunta) Mayzel, age 85, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Edward M. Mayzel. Born in Modica, Province of Ragusa, Sicily on January 31, 1939 she was a daughter of the late Vincent and Teresa (Aromato) Giunta. Josephine had a passion for flowers and was remarkably gifted with the design and creations that she was renowned for making for others. She never went anywhere without bringing a custom arrangement that was inspired by love. That love was fulfilled through her longtime employment at the Garden Shoppe, where she built many friendships over the years and became lovingly referred to as “Fern” by those that knew her. In her retirement, she spent time as part of the Cape and Island Orchid Society, where she won many display awards over the years.  She was selfless and always put the needs of others before her own. She was happiest when surrounded by her loving family and tending to their needs and happiness, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her beloved husband of 60 years Edward Sr., other survivors include her devoted sons, Edward Mayzel Jr. of Harwinton, Gary Mayzel of Wethersfield and Douglas Mayzel and his wife Kari of Watertown, NY, her cherished grandchildren, Tanner, Peyton, Noah and Jaeden Mayzel, her sister, Patricia Marsilio and her husband John of Shelton, her sister-in-law, Anne Ferrari of Torrington, special nieces, Deborah Ferrari and her husband Martin Wheeler of Hartford and Patricia Ferrari of Burlington and loving nephew, Daniel McPadden of Shelton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
