Obituary of Florence Brezina

Florence (Tappe) Brezina, age 96, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late George J. Brezina. Born in Bridgeport on June 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillie (Stadtler) Tappe.

Mrs. Brezina earned her teaching degree from New Haven State Teachers College and later received her Sixth-Year Certificate from SCSU. Florence worked in the Bridgeport Public School System for over 40 years, finishing her career as a kindergarten teacher at Hallen School. The highlight of each school year for her students, and herself, was the class field trip to her wooded backyard, where the children jumped in leaf piles, made butter in her antique churn, and shared lunch together. Florence was an avid reader and enjoyed antiques and tag sales. She was an active and loyal longtime member of Unity Hill Church in Trumbull, serving on various committees and helping with many functions. In memory of her husband she helped start up George's Hill, a still running support group for people with memory problems. Her spunky and lively personality guided her to live with energy, interest, and passion. For years Florence enjoyed helping at her daughter Dawn's ceramic store. She treasured time with family and friends - swimming, playing Pinochle, vacationing in Virginia and Maine, along with cruises to various islands, Canada, and Alaska. We celebrate an amazing life well-lived. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her loving children, Dawn Brezina and Lori Brezina, both of Trumbull, David Brezina and his wife Sharon of Seymour, three cherished grandchildren, David George Brezina and his wife Sammi of PA, Kaelyn and Emily Brezina of Seymour as well as several adored nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband George of 64 years, she was also predeceased by brothers, Edward, Richard and infant Lawrence Tappe and her sister, Dorothy Grotos.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Hill United Church of Christ, 364 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull.
