Obituary of Richard M. Edwards

With profound sadness, we share the heartfelt news of the passing of Richard M. (Arlio) Edwards, affectionately known as "Lefty", age 81 of Shelton. An exceptional man who embodied love, compassion, faith and family entered into eternal rest on February 27th, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Born on October 13, 1942, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Arlio and Mae Murphy Mitchell. For an impressive 45 years, Lefty was employed as an inspector with Remington Rand from which he then retired.

He was the go-to-guy in his family for anything that needed fixing and could often be found tinkering at his work desk repairing something for someone or making use of his creative mind inventing useful gadgets. Aside from being "Mr. fix it", he was the ultimate supporter for his five Grandchildren cheering them on in all their various activities. His enthusiasm was most evident being present on the sidelines for his Grandson's football games from Pop Warner through College where teammates fondly referred to him as "Pop".

Lefty's life served as a testament to his values, leaving an enduring impact on those he loved. Always leading by example, he showcased a legacy of integrity and kindness as a doting and exceptional husband to his beloved and cherished wife, Roseann LaConte Edwards, with whom he recently celebrated being wed for 62 glorious years. In addition to Roseann, he leaves behind two adoring sons, Vincent R. Edwards, Richard J. Edwards Sr. and wife Tammy, five cherished Grandchildren, Vincent N. Edwards, Melissa Brown (Edward), Ashley Edwards-Cortinhas (Fernando), Richard J. Edwards Jr. (his fiancé, Carissa Massaro), Jessica Palmieri (Nicholas), Great Grandson, Bennett Brown and Great Granddaughter, Gianna Cortinhas.

Lefty also leaves behind two loving sisters, Diana Dennis and Sandra Paine (Arnold) -whom he religiously called and spoke to every single evening, as well as his cherished and devoted cousin, Lucinda Timpanelli, and his many family fur babies, whom he cared for and adored, are also among those mourning his loss. He leaves behind a network of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and his Arlio cousins whom he found immense joy in connecting with.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10 a.m. directly in St, Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. At Lefty's request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. To leave an online condolence please visit
