Obituary of Alfonse J. Mauro

Alfonse J. Mauro, age 68 of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Joanne Cennamo Mauro, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on July 9, 1955, he was the son of the late John and Antoinette (Mancuso) Mauro.

Al was a hard working man. On top of 40 years of dedicated service as a Manufacturing Manager at Sikorsky, he took a lot of pride in doing his side jobs. Many times you'd find Al on a roof and a tool in his hand. He was known to many as Mr. Fix-It, a jack-of-all-trades. He built a life he loved and he enjoyed it from his family-made man cave garage.

Al was a man with many interests and hobbies. If he wasn't outside planting in his garden or watching his grass grow, you'd find him at Lone Oak Campsites, where he spent many weekends with his wife and family. He would enjoy hopping in his Cadillac golf cart, visiting his many camping friends. If the sun was out, so was he, with a 7:00am tee time, playing Skins for quarters. He was the happiest when he got his first hole-in-one on Father's Day.

Besides a love for his truck, Al looked forward to bike season. Together, with his son riding beside him and daughter hugging tight from behind, he travelled many miles on his Harley Electra Glide.

To top it off, Al was your all-around fun guy, the life of the party. You heard him before you saw him, and after a kiss hello, you'd find him offering his infamous shots of VO, telling stories of old and new. The best of gatherings ended with a microphone, singing to karaoke.

But above all, he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. His most cherished times have been spent watching his four grandchildren play in his backyard and seeing life through a child's eye. His sparkling eyes and smile could light up the room. The unconditional love he gave and the values he taught, will forever be in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife, Joanne, of 44 years, he is survived by his adoring children and grandchildren; a son, Brian Mauro and wife Lisa, and their children Brian Jr. and Mia, and his daughter, Kristin Mauro and fiancé Matt, children Bradley and Peyton. Al is also survived by his two loving brothers, John Mauro Jr. and wife Ellen, and Richard Mauro and his wife Dawn, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 11:00am directly at St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug those around you, restore something old, and laugh your way through life. Time waits for no one.
