Obituary of Rebecca Blaze Mitchell

Rebecca (Blaze) Mitchell, age 68, of Shelton passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023 at her home. She was the beloved wife of Brian D. Mitchell. Born in Bridgeport on August 15, 1954, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Beatrice M. (McClune) Blaze, Sr. Rebecca had a calling for helping others and her compassionate manner was evident throughout her career as a registered nurse. She accumulated a 40-year career of serving others by spending 15 years at Bridgeport Hospital caring for others, and most recently spent the last 25 years devoting herself at various home care agencies. Mrs. Mitchell was a woman of great faith and a lifelong member of Black Rock Church, where she made many friendships. She was an avid skier and enjoyed traveling with her family or spending time at home by her pool. Her greatest enjoyment however was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored above all else. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her beloved husband Brian of nearly 48 years, other survivors include her loving children, Jennifer Mitchell and her husband Bruce Estes of Shelton and Christopher Mitchell and his wife Maura of Monroe, her cherished grandchildren, Magen Estes and Evalie and Georgia Mitchell, her brothers, Daniel Blaze and his wife Gina of Easton and Lee Blaze of Sarasota, FL, her sister-in-law, Jeane Blaze of Trumbull and adored nephews and niece, John, Jeffrey, Daniel and Lindsay Blaze. She was predeceased by her brother, John J. Blaze, Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 9:00 am in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Huntington Lawn Cemetery East, Shelton. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
