Obituary of Edward S. Laskowski

Edward S. Laskowski, 91, of Trumbull passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Marlene Guard Laskowski for 69 wonderful years.

Edward was born in Bridgeport, CT on December 24, 1931 to the late Vincent and Sophie Samorajczyk Laskowski. Edward proudly served in the Korean War for the US Army. As a combat photographer he was present at the signing of the Korean War Armistice on the demilitarized zone at Panmunjom.

He graduated from Fairfield Prep, Fairfield University and received his Master's Degree in psychiatric social work from Fordham University. Edward began his career as a social worker for Catholic Charities in 1956. Over the next 45 years he became the first layman to be named Diocesan Director for the Diocese of Bridgeport. He served on numerous commissions, including the State Planning Commission for White House Conferences on Aging and the Chairman of the Fourth Congressional District White House Conference on Aging. Among his many achievements were the establishment of programs that continue to help people in the community to this day.

Edward's priority was always his family. He was extremely devoted and supportive of his children, grandchildren, and love of his life, Marlene. He especially enjoyed time spent at their lake house in New Hampshire with friends and family for the past 50 years. Edward was most proud of his three grandchildren and enjoyed attending and cheering them on at all of their varied activities. Edward loved life and was so quick witted. Everyone has a funny story of his humor and mischievous nature. He could make a simple trip to the grocery store, car wash, or bank a funny story that would be retold for years. In addition to causing trouble, Edward enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and baseball. He loved the Yankees, UCONN girls basketball, the casino, polkas, traveling, and, of course, hot dogs.

In addition to his adored wife, Marlene, Edward is survived by his loving daughters Donna Cahill, Deborah Somogie and her husband Glen; his beloved grandchildren Glen Somogie, Jr. and partner, Shawna, Amanda Delahunt and husband, Derek, and Sean Cahill and his fiancé, Maribel. He is also survived by his brother, Ted Laskowski and sister-in-laws, Ellen Laskowski, Sharon Kostyan, and brothers-in-law, Jack Kostyan and Raymond Guard. Edward was pre-deceased by his brother, Raymond Laskowski and sister-in-law, Elaine Laskowski. Edward leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews and cousins, along with his longtime friend, Bob Napolitano.

The family would also like to express their appreciation and love to his wonderful caregivers, Priscilla, Margaret, Tasha, and Krissy.

To say that Edward will be greatly missed is an understatement. His humor and personality was infectious and presence unforgettable. He will be forever loved.

Edwards family will host a memorial service for relatives and friends on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A funeral service followed by military honors will take place in the funeral home Saturday, August 19 at 11:00 am.
