Obituary of Dennis A. Miko

Dennis Andrew Miko, age 68, of Trumbull, CT passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023. Dennis was born in Bridgeport on April 29, 1955, the son of William S. Miko Sr. and the late Mary DiCamillo Miko. Dennis is survived by his wife of 33 years, Janice Sorge Miko and his two sons, David and Gregory.

Dennis graduated from Bullard-Havens Technical High School in 1972, then went to the University of New Haven earning a degree in accounting. Dennis was a man of many occupations. He worked with his brother William S. Miko Jr. at Merritt Contractors of Bridgeport from 1980 to 2000. After his time at Merritt Contractors, he volunteered as a driver for Trumbull EMS. His sons have fond memories of their dad bringing them to the EMS location off Church Hill Road where they were spoiled with $0.25 vending machine sodas and cookies. In recent years, Dennis was a proud volunteer at the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Stratford, CT. He was enthusiastic about the ins and outs of federal and state income tax laws. He loved using his expertise to help people in need, and he did so no matter who they were; clients, cousins, friends, even his sons' bosses (great brownie points for that one).

He is also survived by his siblings, William S. Miko Jr. (Judith), Patricia Page (Michael) and Francine Miko, his mother-in-law, Mary F. Sorge, brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Sorge, David Sorge (Qinghui), Marianne (Steve) Stachelczyk, Nancy Kerma, Annemarie Constantine, and Karen Sorge, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and cousins. Dennis had a special bond with his cousins Lynn and Ed Wetmore and Doug and Diane DiCamillo with whom he spent many nights solving the world's problems while enjoying a scotch and cigar. Janice and Diane would seek refuge from the discussions with a game of scrabble.

To his friends that shared his political texts, we know that you will miss him too. Thank you to uncle Dom Sorge for the monthly chats about the world events.

Dennis was extremely proud of his sons and loved them more than anything in the world. They will miss him greatly. He also liked to gush to anyone that would listen about how his niece Melinda earned a Masters in Taxation and her CPA, very accountant like of him. He was so fond of his nephew Alex and told great stories of how he would spoil him with candies and cookies on his trips to Australia (sorry Pat). Whenever he saw his niece Lauren at Christmas or Fourth of July parties, he could never hide his smile when she joked or teased with him, as hard as he may have tried.

Relatives and friends may greet the family Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull, CT 06611. The Burial will be private.
