Obituary of Joseph J. Riccio

Joseph J. Riccio, age 93, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023 at St. Vincent's Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Marie DeSimone Riccio. Born in Bridgeport on May 28, 1930 he was a son of the late John and Jennie (Nucera) Riccio and was a longtime resident of Trumbull.

Mr. Riccio was the owner and operator of Riccio's Cigar Store in Bridgeport for many years before his retirement. Joe found great joy in being outdoors. He was an avid and successful vegetable gardener, sharing his crops with family and friends. He enjoyed anything to do with food and loved to cook. He watched many cooking shows and tried to duplicate the dishes following his own recipe to make it to his liking. Above all his interests he was the happiest when he was with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his four loving children, Susan Mendel and her husband Steven, James Riccio and his wife Christine, Laura Riccio Prestash and her husband Brian and Peter Riccio and his wife Keri and two cherished granddaughters, Dena and Sarah Riccio as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Patsy Riccio and a sister, Antoinette Masi.

All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
