Obituary of Joseph A. Anderson

Joseph A. Anderson, age 80 of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Madeline (Buccieri) Anderson. Born in Bridgeport on January 24, 1943, he was a son of the late Joseph Anderson and Rosella Chase Schilling and was a longtime resident of Stratford.

Before his retirement, Mr. Anderson worked at Mobil Chemical for many years and later as a carpenter and the bar manager at the former Rip Van Winkle Lanes in Norwalk. After high school he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. Joe was a true sportsman, he was an avid New York Yankees fan, and loved watching the UCONN women's basketball and women's fast pitch softball and was a season ticket holder for the Stratford Brakettes for many years. He was the greatest fan at all of his granddaughter's softball games, attending countless games and cheering them on. Joe liked his cars and at one time owned a Pontiac GTO which he would drag race. He looked forward to his monthly poker games with his friends and traveling extensively with his wife Madeline. Above everything, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife Madeline, survivors include two loving sons, David Anderson of Milford and Scott Anderson (Stacy) of Broken Arrow, OK, seven brothers and sisters, Rosemary Graham (Jack), Richard Anderson (Denise), Donald Anderson, James Percival (Nydia), Ronald Percival (Debbie), Kathleen Asher (Stephanie) and Theresa Lumas, five grandchildren, Rachel Wiederkehr (Filipi), Anthony Anderson, Brooke Anderson, Alyssa Anderson and Lauren Anderson and two cherished great-grandchildren, William and Ava as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Easton. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
