Obituary of Maria Farina Hrenyo

Maria Farina Hrenyo, age 92, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Stephen Hrenyo, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Maefair Health Care Center, Trumbull. Born in Marcianise, Province of Caserta, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Annunziata Varletta Farina.  She was a World War II survivor in Italy and endured countless tragedies of bombings, Nazi occupation and death of friends. After Maria immigrated over to the United States, she became a talented seamstress in the fashion industry and also worked at Remington Shavers and Warnaco.  She enjoyed attending the Baldwin Senior Center in Stratford.

Along with her family she attended Roman Catholic Mass every Sunday for over 50 years at Holy Rosary Church in Bridgeport and was a member of the St. Theresa Guild and loved volunteering for the annual St. Anthony Festival. Maria continued to worship at St. Margaret Shrine, and was a member of the Padre Pio Society.  She loved her friends just like family and gave of herself selflessly and unconditionally.

She was predeceased by a brother, Domenico Farina and three sisters, Pasqualina Pacelli, Marinella DiBrigida and Margherita Cutillo.

Survivors include her loving son, Anthony Hrenyo of Bridgeport, a brother, Rafale Farina of Marcianese, Italy and several nieces and nephews in Italy and the Lepesko, Gwara and Gnida families of Connecticut.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Stratford.  Relatives and friends can greet the family on Thursday Morning from 9 – 10 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
