Obituary of Gabriella Lee Reitmeyer

Gabriella Lee Reitmeyer, age 15, of Oxford passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Haven, CT on May 5, 2007, she was a daughter of Douglas and Gina (DelVento) Reitmeyer and loving sister to Douglas and Rosemarie.

Gabriella grew up in Oxford, CT, surrounded by woods where she developed a deep love for the outdoors and for animals of all kinds. As a young girl, she could be found exploring the woods, creating fun obstacle courses for her dog, Timber, and playing with and caring for her bunny, Hazel, as well as many fish friends. She treasured her many family ventures including camping, hiking, skiing, and summertime at the beach. She was in the 10th grade at Nonnewaug Regional High School where she studied Animal Sciences and was a member of Future Farmers of America.

But her true passion was Horses. She started to ride at the age of 9 and quickly became an accomplished equestrienne. She spent weekends at Another Farm in Woodbury training on Jack and traveled to her Uncle Vito’s farm, Bit by Bit, in Florida, to train and ride on her precious horse Kate. The time she spent on the farm had served as an effective therapy for her throughout her battle. Gabriella will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her loving parents, Doug and Gina, she is also survived and adored by her brother, Douglas, Jr. and her sister, Rosemarie, her maternal grandparents, Vito and Marie DelVento, her paternal grandmother, Barbara Schegg, her beloved aunts and uncles, Vito DelVento Jr, Maria DelVento and her partner Sheila Green, Adriana DelVento Antunes and her husband Tony and Eric Reitmeyer. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Thomas Reitmeyer, Jr., step-grandmother Elaine Reitmeyer and step-grandfather John Schegg.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gabriella’s memory may be made to the family’s GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/f/gabriella-enjoy-spending-time-with-her-family) to support rescue animals and projects at her riding farms or to LivFree, a non-profit organization supporting pediatric cancer families (livfreetoday.org) which supported our family last year.
