Obituary of Zelinda Gomes

Zelinda Sampaio Da Cruz Gomes, age 92 of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Jose Sampaio Gomes, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 24, 2023 with her loving daughters by her side. Born in Soutelo, Chaves, Portugal on March 27, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Arcino Da Cruz and Maria Rodrigues Sampaio.

Zelinda came to the United States in 1969 with her family and settled in Bridgeport. She was a retired employee of Bridgeport Fittings with over 25 years of dedicated service and was also formerly employed by the Dinan Memorial Center. Her greatest enjoyment was being with her family. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will forever live in their hearts. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her two loving daughters, Maria Diaz (John) and Tina Waehler (Scott), her six cherished grandchildren, Kira Diaz, Connor Diaz, Ian Diaz, Emily Waehler, Brendan Waehler and Justin Waehler; a brother Jose Da Cruz, two sisters, Gloria Morias and Odette Pires, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Jose, she was predeceased by her brother Antonio Da Cruz and her sisters Senhorinha Alves and Teresa Teixeira.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. directly in St. Patrick's Church, 851 North Ave., Bridgeport with Rev. Rogerio Perri celebrating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull.

The family would also like to thank the caring and dedicated staff at Shady Knolls, especially Martine, Mariclaire, Kathlin, Isabel and Chinapot.
