Obituary of Maria Do Carmo Meixide Coutinho

Maria Do Carmo Meixide Coutinho, age 91, of Bridgeport, CT beloved wife of the late Jose Dinis Coutinho, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2023. Born on July 11, 1931 in Ardaos, Boticas, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Teresa Meixide.

Maria came to the United States in 1981 and settled with her family in Bridgeport. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cared deeply for her family and treasured her time spent with them. Her family was her life, she enjoyed being a caretaker for all of her grandchildren. She loved Sunday dinners, cooking, and celebrating many birthdays surrounded by her family and friends.

She was truly devoted to her family and her faith. She told stories of growing up in Portugal and shared many traditions which will be passed on for generations to come. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her loving children, a son, Domingos Coutinho and his wife Teresa, three daughters, Belmira Vaz and her partner Domingos Carvalho, Adelaide Bras and her husband Joao and Teresa Irizarry and her partner Kevin Shultz, daughter-in-law, Madalena Coutinho, seven cherished grandchildren, Susie Coutinho Teixeira (Joe), Grace Vaz-Bernal (Javier), Nuno Coutinho (Emely), Gisselle Vaz-McCann (Tim), Carla Ramos (John), Ashley Lucas (Don), Julian Irizarry and Jordan Irizarry (Emily), 13 adored great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and relatives. She was predeceased by a son Adriano Meixide Coutinho and three grandchildren, Sonia Coutinho, Pedro Coutinho and Jennifer Lopez and her four siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Road, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
