Obituary of Elena Esposito

Elena (Gigliotti) Esposito, age 87, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family at the Jewish Senior Services, Bridgeport. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Esposito. Born in Nicastro, Province of Lamezia Terme, Italy on April 3, 1935 she was a daughter of the late Emilio and Maria Catarina (Sacco) Gigliotti. In her early years, Elena had worked as a seamstress before eventually dedicating her life to raising and caring her children. She had a “green thumb” and took great pride in nurturing her plants and gardens. That same pride was evident in the meticulous way she kept her home, where she enjoyed cooking, feeding and entertaining others. Elena also was a bird lover, especially canaries, which she often raised. Her greatest enjoyment however was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored above all else. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving children, John Esposito and his wife Rosemarie of Shelton, Anthony Esposito, Jr. of Oxford and Mary Riehl and her husband David of Trumbull, a sister, Aida Palmeri and her husband Rafael of Nicastro, Italy, six cherished grandchildren, Nicole Esposito and her fiancé Kevin White, John Anthony Esposito and his wife Amanda, Gina Esposito, David Riehl and his wife Ashley, Joseph Riehl and Emily Riehl, her adored great grandchildren, Luca and Lorenzo Esposito, David, Olivia and Owen Riehl and Mariyah Young, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband Anthony, she was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Cathy Esposito, her brothers, Antonio, Gianfranco, Renato, Vincenzo and Remo Gigliotti and her sisters, Theresa “Cecina” Zullo and Silvia Fennat.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 30, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in the St. Monica Mausoleum of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06604.
