Obituary of Amadeu Manuel do Souto

Amadeu Manuel do Souto, 88, of Shelton, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 31, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer.

Born March 13, 1934, in Pinho Boticas, a small village in northern Portugal, Amadeu was the son of the late Francisco do Souto and Herminia Cabeleira do Souto. He immigrated to the United States in 1966 with his wife, Maria Fatima Ferreira do Souto, and their three daughters, Rosa, Teresa, and Tina. The family lived in Milford, Massachusetts before moving to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Amadeu was first employed by General Electric, and later, the City of Bridgeport Department of Public Works.

Amadeu was a simple man in that he had two great loves in life: family and futebol (most of the time in that order). A dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, his most treasured moments were those spent with his family gathered around him. As he always said, "I am a happy man."

Amadeu is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 64 years, Maria Fatima; his daughters, Rosa (and husband Raymond Baghdady), Teresa (and husband Joseph Stage), Tina (and husband John Murphy); his sister, Ida Dias of Milford, Massachusetts, and family; his sister-in-law Augusta Rosa, husband Domingos, their daughter Jessica, all of Trumbull, CT, and their son Christopher of Fairfield, CT; his granddaughters, Gabriela, Julia, Sophia, Isabela, and Diana, who were the pride and joy of his life; and extended family in Portugal.

His legacy of unwavering love and dedication to family, stoic strength, and humble gratitude for the small joys of life will live on in the memory of those who knew and loved him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours.
