Obituary of Irene L.S. Kalina

Irene Lizabeth (Strich) Kalina, age 84, of Shelton passed away peacefully on Saturday December 17, 2022 at St. Vincents Medical Center, Bridgeport. She was the beloved wife of the late Andrew J. Kalina Jr.

Born in Bridgeport on May 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Suzanna (Piatak) Strich. She married the love of her life at the tender age of 20 in November 1958 and enjoyed 62 wonderful, loving, years as husband and wife. They were inseparable and cherished every moment together. They built their home together in Shelton in 1968 in which they took great pride. Irene kept an immaculate house  and when she wasn’t indoors she was outside tending to her extensive flower gardens. Irene and Andrew loved traveling the world, they visited many countries including Italy, Greece, France, Czechoslovakia and many more, but their favorite was the Orient.

Irene loved the casino’s and would frequent Las Vegas and Atlantic City yearly. Also in her younger years, she belonged to a woman’s Bowling League and won several trophies.

She retired from Agissar Corp. as a materials inspector in 1997.

Survivors include her sister-in-law Edith Strich, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Andrew, she was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters Michael, George, John, Helen and Mary.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Brightview Shelton Senior Living for their care and compassion during the last year.

Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday December 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
