Obituary of Alice Hanna

Alice (Alanz) Hanna, age 92, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Hanna. Born in Maárat Sydnaya, Syria on December 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Antonios and Mary (Khouri) Alanaz. Mrs. Hanna was a devout Christian and faithful parishioner of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, where she was also a member of the Lady’s Guild and was greatly involved in the orchestrating and success of the church bazaars. Upon her mother’s passing, Alice became instrumental in the raising of her brothers and sisters. She was a great cook and alongside her husband, operated the Corner Grocery and Deli in Bridgeport for over 30 years where she built many lasting friendships. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her loving children, Alec Hanna, Alexa Hanna, Ilyas “Louis” Hanna and Mary Hanna, her cherished grandchildren, Najwa Deeb, Jean Paul Hanna, Michael Deeb, Alexander Hanna, Samantha Hanna, Genevieve Montehno, Tatiana Burruano and Nicholas Ilyas Hanna, her sisters, Star, Amira and Inaam Alanz, all of Syria, her brothers, Farez Alanz of Syria and Nabil Alanz and his wife Rawda of Trumbull, as well as many great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. In addition to her husband Nicholas, she was also predeceased by her children, Gary, Michael and John Hanna.   

Friends and relatives may greet the family on Thursday, October 6, 2022 and Friday, October 7, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 5458 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. in the church. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
