Obituary of Angelina Scerbo

Angelina Scerbo, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Fred Scerbo, Sr., passed into the presence of the Lord on Sunday morning, September 4, 2022, at the Jewish Senior Care Center in Bridgeport CT. Angelina was born on October 9, 1928, in Nicastro, Calabria, Italy, a daughter of the late Felice and Giovanna (Capasso) Bevilacqua.

Her very early years were marked by a broken home setting and was raised primarily by her grandmother who loved her dearly. She never had the opportunity to attend school; instead, learned to sew for the nuns in a local convent through her pre-teenage and teenage years, during the days of WWII. God watched over her closely during those tumultuous years. Angelina was married to Fred Scerbo in Italy on August of 1949 when she was 21 years old. They came to America in December 1949, started their new life, and never looked back. Angelina worked as an expert tailor/seamstress all her life.

Angelina was a truly remarkable and courageous woman of faith…who tirelessly provided for, cared for, loved, served, fed, housed, and clothed family and friends. While raising her two sons, she put herself into night school to do the best she could to learn how to read and write, and eventually got her driver's license. She loved this country and became a successful owner of a coat manufacturing company. And what skills she did possess due to lack of any formal schooling in her early life in Italy, she surpassed a hundred-fold in demonstrating real-life and faith-based wisdom, hard work, love and encouragement to her family and friends. And most important, her deep faith in Jesus Christ was marked by her decision at age 80 to be baptized at Calvary Evangelical Church in Trumbull.

The world has lost a beautiful soul; her family and friends have lost her beautiful presence and smile, but not her spirit; and Heaven has welcomed another beautiful saint as Jesus embraced and welcomed her into His eternal Heavenly home.

Angelina is survived by two sons, Fred Scerbo, Jr. and wife Cecilia of New Haven CT; and Dominic Scerbo and wife, Kristine of Trumbull CT; three grandchildren, Jonathan Scerbo (married to Jessica Hyndman), Linnea Scerbo McHenry (married to Brent McHenry), and Jordan Scerbo; and three great grandchildren, Alice Scerbo, Adalyn Scerbo, and Logan McHenry.

A funeral service will be held on Friday September 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Abriola Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Friday morning from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
