Obituary of Gaetano Liburdi

Gaetano Liburdi, age 87, of Easton, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Yolanda (Savone) Liburdi. Born in Torrice, Province of Frosinone, Italy on November 23, 1934, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Lucia (Paniccia) Liburdi and was longtime resident of Easton.

Gaetano came to this country in 1954, not knowing any English and with barely anything in his pocket. He started his life in this country in Troy, NY where he worked odd jobs to make ends meet. Work opportunities brought him to Bridgeport CT where he worked as a tile setter and then a blast hole drill operator, spending many years blasting out ledge for highways all over Connecticut. In 1960 Gaetano traveled back to Italy and spent several months courting his beautiful bride to be. Together, they came back to the U.S. and would spend the next 62 years together, living first in Bridgeport for 17 years and then spending the next 45 years in Easton, CT.

He had many passions in life; making his own wine and sausage, tending to his garden, hunting, fishing, reading, playing cards with friends, and above all else, he loved spending time with his family. Gaetano had a gift of making close friends wherever he went and they would often remain lifelong friends. He would often take his family back to Italy and share many of his favorite memories, his favorite places, and especially his favorite food. Gaetano was one of the original members of the local Italian club, Circolo Sportivo Italo Americano in Bridgeport, CT. and could be found there often. Any time there was a party the dance floor is where he'd be, showing off his moves. Gaetano loved life and he lived it to the fullest, he will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife Yolanda of 61 years, survivors include three loving children, Lawrence Liburdi of Valley Springs, CA, Ottavio Liburdi of Shelton, and Luciana "Lucy" Frenkel, of Easton, 6 grandchildren; Lorenzo Liburdi, Brandon Sohl, Julia Liburdi, Kristen Liburdi, Justin Frenkel & Olivia Frenkel, and two cherished great-grandsons, Nick & Noah.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. directly at Notre Dame of Easton Church, 655 Morehouse Rd. Easton. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
