Obituary of Manuel Goncalves Rei

Manuel Goncalves Rei, age 89, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Gloria Afonso Rei, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Born on January 26, 1933 in Quintas, Beca, Boticas, Portugal, he was the son of the late Agusto Albertino Goncalves Rei and Ana Carolina da Silva Rei. Manuel along with his wife immigrated to the United States in 2013 to be closer to their daughter and grandson. During his time in Portugal, he was a farmer by trade growing many crops for all to enjoy and was also a talented shoemaker. He took great pride in watching and supporting his beloved soccer team, F.C. Porto and Seleção Portuguesa de Futebol with Manny (grandson). Yet above all things, he was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. The unconditional love he gave and the values he taught will forever live in our hearts. In addition to his beloved wife of over 60 years, Gloria, survivors include his loving daughter, Maria Rei Ramada and her husband Fernando and his cherished grandson Manny Ramada - all of Fairfield - as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves many additional relatives and friends in the United States and Portugal. Manuel will be deeply missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday May 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
