Obituary of Angeline Caruso Schillaci
Angeline Caruso Schillaci, aged 97, of Bridgeport, CT, beloved wife of the late Alexander Schillaci, Sr., passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Angie was born in Bridgeport on March 6, 1925 to the late Frank and Frances Caruso. On December 28, 1952, Angie married Alex in the Vatican in Rome, Italy, settling later in Bridgeport. She graduated from Albertus Magnus College and received her Master’s Degree from Yale University and Sixth Year Certificate from the University of Bridgeport. She was a biology teacher at Harding High School for more than 37 years and was respected by her peers and students. After she retired, she volunteered at VITA and at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center.
Angie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her strong Catholic faith, and for her culinary ability to make the best meatballs and sauce, which were a staple at every meal. She loved doing puzzles and word games and she cherished Sunday and holiday dinners with her growing family.
In addition to her husband Alex, Angie was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Caroline Wakefield, Rose Iodice, and Rita Quatrella; her brother Joseph Caruso; and her great-grandson Aiden Alexander Mahoney.
Angie is survived by her four children, Joan DiMatteo, Frances Mahoney, Rosemary Pagliaro, and Alexander (Sue) Schillaci, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Lauren) Mahoney, Richard (Yvonne) Mahoney, Michelle Pagliaro, Michael (Lirjona) Pagliaro, Alexander W. Schillaci, Sara Schillaci, and Steven Schillaci; and six great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Samantha, Cameron, Thomas, and Landon Mahoney and Luna Pagliaro, all of whom have many fond memories of “Ma.” She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces and nephews in the United States and Italy, as well as many dear friends, especially Father Gene Szantyr, and Angie’s neighbors Eric and Ivette Cabrera.
Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10:30 am at St. Andrews Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Angie may be mailed to St. Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325, or to a charity of your choice.
