My sincerest belated condolences on the loss of Tony. Along with his lovely wife Helen, he was a dear and loyal friend to my mother Judith Fourtin Harries Keane. Many years ago, when my mother and her siblings were looking for a nursing home place for their mother my grandmother, Tony offered his assistance. That kindness has never been forgotten by me. He was a good man, and the world is a poorer place for his loss. I'm sending love to Helen, Caroline, and Laura.

Dear Helen and Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Tony was a kind, wonderful man and a great friend. He was a loving husband and was so proud when he spoke of his Family. His faith played a very important role in his life.
Gus K and I always looked forward to having dinner with Helen and Tony at Vinny's in Bpt.
He was fun to be around because of his positive attitude and his infectious smile.
He always spoke kindly of people.
He will be missed by many but will never be forgotten.
May he rest in peace. We now have another Angel in heaven.
With my deepest sympathy,

It was a great honor to work for Tony at OPM. He was the most gracious, caring and righteous man you can marine. He was calm when those around him were hysterical. He was caring and concerned when others didn’t realize there was a problem. We will not see another like him.

Dear Milano family
Tony was a kind, trusting and caring man and used those values in all his work and relationships. I had the pleasure of working with when I worked at DEP and developed some innovative financing for municipal clean water financing and later when he hired me at the MDC as his chief administrative officer. He set the standard for a civil servant in his commitment to the state, community and each and every person. I will never forget my work with him.

Dear Milano family. Your father was a professor of mine at Central CT State University. He was a lovely man, so kind, gentle and boy he knew his stuff. I did not know Tony in when he served OPM, or the Governor, but I hear he was the best. Sending my deepest condolences. May the memories of Tony stay alive in your hearts. I served in the Legislature during much of Tony's tenure as Secretary of OPM. As chairman of the Appropriations Committee I had to work closely with him on many difficult budgetary issues. No matter how difficult the choices or how long the meeting, Tony kept his cool, demonstrated a charming sense of humor, patience and kindness. He was a man who would never knowingly hurt anyone and was compassionate and considerate of all. I greatly respected these traits combined with his keen intellect. He will be missed by many and was a model for us all.

Dear Helen, Caroline, Laura, and John,
Barbara and I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Milano family.
I met Tony when he came to Central Connecticut State University twenty years ago as a Distinguished Professor of Public Policy as part of the Governor William A. O’Neill Endowed Chair at CCSU. He inspired students in his State and Local Government classes to embrace a career in public service. Together with Mrs. Nikki O’Neill, Tony spearheaded the enduring Governor William A. O’Neill Public Service Scholarship program for Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) students, honoring Governor Bill O’Neill’s distinguished legacy.
After Tony retired as Distinguished Professor in 2006, he stayed on as the Chairperson of the O’Neill Endowed Chair Advisory Board, where he was actively engaged in the development and implementation of student-centered public policy programs and events.
Tony was steadfastly dedicated to helping CCSU’s under-represented, first-generation college students succeed academically and in life. He was a consummate public servant, who wanted to make a positive difference in in people’s lives.
From the very beginning of our long and wonderful relationship, Tony became a dear friend and mentor. Tony was a kind and gentle soul, who loved his family and was so proud of you all.
We watched the entire funeral service today via the St. Catherine of Siena’s live-stream, and it was very beautiful, dignified, and meaningful. It truly captured the essence of this wonderful and decent human being.
We will miss Tony dearly and will cherish our many fond memories.
Love,
Steve Kliger and Barbara Reiner

I think that Tony would be a little uncomfortable with all the tributes but here it goes anyways.
Anyone who knew him was immediately given a sense of warmth and comfort in this humble and God-fearing man. It is wise to reflect on the good days and the bad but as Secretary of OPM he did not waver or lose his bearing. He served the citizens and Governor in a like manor with caring, loyalty, and love. He will be missed by all who knew him and by those who did not by his sincere caring for them through his policy implementation. What he showed every day was love of family, love of God and love for the state.
He will be truly missed.

I met Mr. Milano in 1978 when I was a 22 year old student intern in OPM's Capitol Office working for Mike Riley. I was relatively new to CT and didn't know the politics of the State at that time. I remember sitting at our work table in the Capitol on one of my first days when a man came in, took off his overcoat, placed his briefcase on the table and sat down across from me. He introduced himself, saying simply "Hi. I'm Tony Milano.". I introduced myself and Tony went on to ask me where I was going to school, where I was from, what type of career I was interested in, etc.. He then got called into a meeting and left. About a week later I was in a Public Administration/State Government class and the Professor asked the class "Who is the most powerful man in Connecticut state government?" (Ella was governor at the time.) People answered: the Lieutenant Governor, the Senate President Pro Tempore, and made other incorrect guesses. The Prof said "No, the most powerful man in CT government is a gentleman named Anthony Milano". I was stunned. I thought to myself 'Tony? Tony Milano? the kind, friendly, unassuming man I just met?'. Well, of course, yes, it was him. And so it began...I've been blessed to have known and loved AVM first as my boss at both OPM and MDC, then as a mentor, and, most importantly, as a friend for over 40 years. And my Professor was right, Tony truly was a gentle man in every respect. He lived his life with a devotion to our Lord, his family, and friends. He was simply the best and I will miss him so. My love and heartfelt condolences to Helen, Caroline and Laura and your families. God be with you.

Mr. Milano was such a kind soul. I first met him when he & Mrs. Milano came to visit Laura at BC our freshman year. They included Laura's friends in a birthday dinner! My dad always liked him. I believe the two Tony's had a mutual admiration for each other, even though one was a Yankees fan, & the other a Sox guy! RIP, Mr. Milano. Thank you for being a positive role model.

My Uncle Tony had such admirable and lovable qualities. I will fondly remember his comedic qualities and how he infused
humor and fun into all our exchanges and experiences. My father, Joseph Milano, was his brother and I will cherish the many comical stories of their childhood that Uncle Tony shared.
Tony Milano was full of love, he was humble, he was an academy award winning uncle, and he was a hero. I believe if he could
say something to us all today it would be " Be brave, have courage, love life, and keep laughing. "
If I could say something to him today it would be " Uncle Tony, thank you for everything, I love you to the moon and back. "
I will close with a quote from the Russian American composer and lyricist Irving Berlin:
" The song is ended, but the melody lingers on. "

Tony will always for us be known as Secretary Milano. He was the most kindest and thoughtful man we knew. Every April 22 I would get a call from him wishing me a happy birthday. The years we spent at OPM together will always be remembered as the best 10 years ever. Tony knew everyone’s name and he would walk around and ask “how are you doing”. Our times at the cottage in Stratford and our days at Belmont will always be fond memories. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Helen, Caroline and Laura. We loved your husband and dad. He will always be in our hearts.

Mr. Milano was larger than life. As one of Caroline's best friends growing up, I have so many fond memories of him and his kindness, his joy for life, his silliness and his sacredness. Times at the lake house, homemade pizza nights and the ultimate memory of taking Caroline and I to the Shawn Cassidy concert. Nothing ever ruffled his feathers. He always remained the same kind steady loving father, husband, friend. Heaven is a lot sweeter now with Mr. Milano. God Bless you Caroline, Laura and Helen.

My first memory of Anthony Vincent Milano was at Laura and Joe's wedding. He and Helen were seated to the right of where my husband Don and I were sitting. We met again at Joe's surprise 50th birthday party. He was very friendly and full of joyful exuberance, much like his daughter Laura. I admire Tony for the family man he was. He raised two wonderful women and was a very dedicated, loving husband. I am so sorry for the great loss his family has to endure. A person of great character is a great loss. He was cool, an old school gentleman! ---Ruth Albert
